ORIGINS OF PEACEMAKING CIRCLES
The Circle Center did not invent the Circle process and we believe it is important to always acknowledge the origins of Circle and our teachers. Circles were a foundational process in aboriginal and native traditions dating back to the Earth’s earliest history. Because we see Circle as a tremendous gift supporting our work with communities, we like to acknowledge the origins of this practice and some of our teachers and mentors any time we are sharing about Circle:
First of all is Kay Pranis who was trained & mentored by Barry Stuart, former Chief Justice of the Yukon Territorial Courts (non-native white judge). Kay was also trained by Mark Wedge of the Deicitaan Clan of the Tagish/T’lingit Nation.
Second, Molly Baldwin, founder & CEO of ROCA, Inc.also trained by Mark Wedge & Barry Stuart.
Third, our dear friend Sue Williamson (Nunga) who is Inupiaq Yupik and encourages us on our path to being better human beings.
